This article describes how to install the python package management system, or PIP, in Ubuntu 18. PIP can be used to install and manage Python packages.
Although Python 3 is pre-installed in Ubuntu 18, PIP is not. That’s ok, follow these simple steps to install PIP.
Update package list
Before installing anything in Ubuntu, it is always best to update the system’s package list to ensure it reflects the latest.
sudo apt update
With your package list updated, you’re now ready to install PIP.
Open a terminal and enter the following command:
sudo apt install python3-pip
At the prompt, hit
yto proceed with the install
The download and install will take a few of minutes depending on your Internet connection.
Once the install is finished, you can verify that PIP was installed by checking the version details:
You should see something like this:
pip 9.0.1 from /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages (python 3.6)
You have now instaled PIP3 in your Ubuntu 18 system.
