How to add and remove items from the Ubuntu Dock

This article describes how to add and remove items from the Dock in Ubuntu 18. The dock is great for providing quick access to your most frequently used applications and utilities. Items in the dock are also known as favorites.

The Ubuntu Dock is the task bar on the left side of the screen. Adding and removing items is simple.

Adding items to the Dock

  1. In the bottom left corner of the desktop, click the Show Applications button.

  2. Search for the application you want to add to the dock by using the Type to search… field. For example, Terminal.

  3. Right-click the application icon and select Add to Favorites.

  4. You will see a confirmation message that the appliation has been added to your favorites.

  5. The application will now be available in the dock for easy access.

Removing items from the dock

  1. To remove an item from the dock, simply right-click the icon and select Remove from Favorites.
